A little late on this one.
So it looks like Codemasters dusted off the DIRT’s groundbreaking game engine and used it entirely for GRID, obviously a racing focused game that is neither an “arcade” or “sim” type racer.
GRID is, well it’s a lot of things.
First, it’s beautiful - from the astonishing damage modelling to the super slo-motion replays or the innovative flashback sequences that let you replay the last moments befiore a career ending crash.
Second - the controls are spot on. the cars handle like you would expect their real life counterparts to. There’s nothing like being in a pack of cars and bumping your way to the front. Everything about the physics just feels right.
Next, the audio. There’s a little bit more going on here than just engine rumble. GRID nails everything - from the metal on metal sounds, to the squeal of your suspension when going into a curve too fast. It’s damn perfect.
The games modes are varied with a deep single player mode as well as online action.
All in all, this is Grand Turismo for the 360 but it’s definitely not a clone. I say if you dig racing games, then you’ll like this one.
