Review: BF-F9 V2+

The BF-F9 V2+ is the next level of ham radio, improving on the top of the line UV-5R V2+ model with the new addition of Tri-Power functionality:

This includes unsurpassed transmission power of 8 watts, the most impressive Baofeng ever made to date.

The BF-F9 V2+ has an expanded frequency range like the UV-82, and a new chipset with noise-reduction features that block out noises caused by signal intensity changes along with tail tone elimination when transmitting or receiving signals between 50Hz-55Hz.

The BF-F9 V2+’s tri-color display makes for easy reading on the bright LCD, and this radio can be programmed with or without a PC to work on private repeater systems.

The most powerful, versatile Baofeng, it has transmitting power selectable up to 8 watts. It is fully backward compatible with all UV-5R accessories. A 1 Year Domestic Warranty is exclusively supported for this listing by Foscam Digital Technologies, making this the best value available for a product at the cutting edge of ham radio technology.

I recently got back into ham radio after letting my original license expire a few years back. Now, that I’m back into the hobby full force, I wanted to try out some of these Chinese made HT radios I’ve heard so much about.

Enter the Baofeng BF-F9V2+.

Much cheaper than some of the other entry level models, this radio offers an excellent build quality and the performance to match. With the included antenna, simplex communications can go up to over a mile with full quieting audio. Repeater performance is also excellent.
If you connect it up to a Slim Jim type antenna or a mobile dual band – this little radio will really shine. I am able to hit repeaters I never thought I would be able to based upon my location.

First thing – download an application called CHIRP. It is a superb piece of software supporting a large number of radios and is easy to use. I was never actually to get the Baofeng software to behave itself. Trust me, CHIRP is awesome. It makes reading and writing to the radio a breeze.

This radio is built on the same form factor, so all accessories from the previous generation should work with no issue.

Let’s talk about tri-power. Now I didn’t think this would be as important. But you can definitely tell the difference at high power (8 watts) versus 5 watts from previous iterations of this device.

In closing, you just can’t go wrong with the price point, build, and performance of this radio.

Also big thanks to FOSCAM for the crazy fast shipping and support! They are the official US retailer of Baofeng.
